A Breeze of Limes by Lupinicious A Breeze of Limes by Lupinicious
In appreciation and awe of *MichelleRamey's photography, *khaosdog and me spent a few hours shooting photos of water, limes and ice on Sunday.

Here's one of the results. I am lacking a lens that works really well for that kind of photography, so the photo shoot was kind of awkward, and we're still really far from anything really cool, but hey, it's a start, we had a lot of fun trying it, and we definitely learned a lot during those few hours :D

I got my new 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II USM today, which is at least one day too late, so these are still shot using the 28-300 @ 70 mm.

Thanks to *khaosdog for the good ideas, for bringing the ideal equipment and for soaking ourselves with water and lime juice :)

I love your pictures, but not so much your watermark...
its good that it is only in the corner though.

It's not really a watermark. If it was, it would be all over the photo :-)
Since it's not part of any of the photos, it's quite irrelevant, I'd say.

Thank you, that's really kind :)
But I really think we do have a long way to go still until we figure stuff out.
In the next session I'll try the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II USM, that should make the photos more crisp and make it easier to work with the lighting / achieve decent shutter speeds. However, a macro lens would definitely be more suited, but I don't think I am spending $1000 on a lens I am just playing around with. Well, not for now :D

I always cheated with macro and snagged my mom's zoom lens that has a macro mode on it. XD Since we both have Canons, we steals each others lenses all the time.

Except now she has digital and I don't so I have to steal her camera sometime now too. <.<

Thanks for the inspiration. I have a Casio with 40fps and tried to capture ice hitting water and cherries hitting red wine with nothing like this. Time to go back to this project again I think. Thanks once again :)

Manuel focus?

Well, both works. At first I used manual focus, but it's quite a pain to focus using live view, because it takes quite a while. Focusing only using the viewfinder is impossible using the standard focusing screen. One-shot AF works better if you prefocus (what you gotta do anyways), so I went with that in the end.

You stabilized with the AF and when switched over to manual?

No, that's not necessary. With One-Shot AF, you may just focus and then take a series of photos without losing the focus.

I freaking love that setting. I can't use manual focus. Found out after failing several assignments (thanks to another prof overhearing me being all confused in a meeting about my grades) that people with astigmatism usually have to use autofocus all the time because they tend to backfocus, especially in low light.

:wow: Amazing! I love the underwater part of the lime, and your background is spotless! (Something I tend to have trouble with :giggle: )
