One of the photos I took yesterday in those 45 minutes I had after we completed the annual meeting of the GWA at Tierpark Sababurg and before we had to drop people off at the railway station and grab some dinner.
The wolves were more active than usual and so I got a couple of interesting shots despite the tight schedule. I hated to have to leave in the end, that's for sure
On the photo, you see one of the omegas of the pack (there seem to be two by now...) being attacked by the alpha female of the pack (on the right). Actually, she attacks the other wolves quite a lot, a behavior you do not usually see in confident alphas.
The bad alphas, however, often display a high level of aggressiveness and hope to maintain their position that way. In fact, these are the alphas that have a hard time when they age and at some point, when they are not as vigilant anymore, are attacked by several wolves at once and fall straight down to omega position.
This female, however, has already gotten rid of all other females in the pack and now is the only female. Nevertheless, that does not keep her from picking on her male pack members now.
The wound on this poor fella's back is from violently getting his fur ripped out. It looks pretty bad but it's a pretty common injury that will heal untreated if he's finally left alone - but I'm afraid it will still take a few weeks for the pack to finally mellow up a bit.

why would an old alpha be attacked by the other wolves in a pack? They are the alpha and should not be attacked at once, until the alpha would give up there rank, I think that is a little harsh to put them all the way to omega? right? lol I'm just asking, not being mean or anything
