Dreamy White Gaze by Lupinicious Dreamy White Gaze by Lupinicious
A tundra wolf (Canis lupus albus) at Wildpark Alte Fasanerie in Klein-Auheim, Hanau, Germany.

I believe this is Ayla, the only female in the pack of three, but I cannot be sure. You might be surprised to read that this is not a Canadian arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos), but a tundra wolf, which is a subspecies from northern Asia.

It was wonderful to take photos of these white beauties in the deep snow. I visited them on my way back from our company's christmas party, and luckily the day before it was snowing heavily.

Full view, please :D

I will post some more photos of that session during the next few days.

Thank you!
How do I do that - well, I visit nearby parks with wolves and take photos :-) You can read about my equipment in my profile ID.
Timber wolves and grey wolves are basically the same. Grey wolves are the general species (Canis lupus) while "Timber wolf" usually refers to the North American (Canadian) subspecies. The wolves I take photos of include North American subspecies as well as European wolves (Canis lupus lupus) and Arctic wolves (Canis lupus arctos).

"Pure red wolves" would be paradox in itself, looking at recent research that suggests that red wolves may simply be hybrids between grey wolves and coyotes. :)

wow. that was so much more informative than the discovery channel. that bit of info will be so useful when i need to explain wolves to my boyfriends.

as for around here.... well, we have none. i live on the coast so the day that i see a wolf i'll always remember. I haven't even seen a fox here.
