Wow, this weekend was fun and exhausting at the same time. The German Wolf Association had their annual meeting yesterday and were holding that at a seminar room in the animal park I like to hang around and take photos at a lot (Tierpark Sababurg).

In between the meeting and the BBQ party we did afterwards, we got a private wolf feeding by one of the park's tour guides and then took an hour or two worth of photos.

This time it was particularly exciting because there was a photographer present from the GDT (german animal photographer association) who brought an old Canon EF 600mm f/4 IS lens. Despite the age of that old lens technology (> 10 years), the quality is absolutely en par with my new 70-200 telezoom. This makes me eager to see the new 600mm f/4 IS II :D

Anyways, we swapped lenses, and this is one of the photos I was taking with the 600mm f/4. I was of course shooting using a tripod, and although the wolf was moving and I was shooting at only 1/320s and ISO 500, I was lucky enough to get no motion blur in this one.

The photo is a crop - in the original photo, the whole wolf is visible - but I was so fascinated by the facial expression that I decided to crop it down to a ~70% crop. Although I am usually not a fan of cropped off ears, it seems to work really well with this picture.

Hope you like it! I sure enjoyed shooting supertelezoom :D
More to come from that day...

*) like so often with such photos, this wolf is just jawning and caught in a very interesting moment ;-)
